In Summary

Taking over Sedah’s role in the capital is Issah Mahamud, the former Western Region police chief.

A major shake-up in the National Police Service has seen top regional and DCI officers reassigned as part of a broader realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.

George Sedah, who has been leading Nairobi police operations since January 2025, has been moved to head the Western Region. Taking over Sedah’s role in the capital is Issah Mahamud, the former Western Region police chief.

The changes were revealed Thursday evening following a meeting of senior police commanders chaired by Inspector General Douglas Kanja, with Deputy Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli also in attendance.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has also undergone a series of personnel changes. Senior Assistant Inspector General Francis Ndiema, previously in charge of Personnel at the DCI headquarters, will now serve as the new Head of Investigations, succeeding Abdallah Komesha, who retired.

In other moves, Rosemary Kuraru, formerly Director of Forensic Services at the DCI, has been appointed Director of Personnel at Mazingira. Sospeter Munyi, who headed the DCI Training Academy, now leads Forensic Services, while Jillo Ibrahim takes over the training academy.

Further transfers include Benson Kasyoki, the former Nairobi head of criminal investigations, who will now hold the same position in Mombasa. Daniel Kandie, previously in Mombasa, will take over the Nairobi post.

The reshuffle comes amid ongoing preparations for structural adjustments within the National Police Service. Attention is also focused on the impending departure of DCI Director Mohammed Amin in April, following the end of his two-year contract granted by President William Ruto in 2024 after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.

Officers are already positioning themselves for the top DCI post, though it is yet unclear whether Amin’s contract will be extended.
